The ASPECT Study will:
● Document the time-course of cognitive function in patients presenting for coronary angiography or THJR surgery with evidence of cognitive instability at baseline
● Prospectively monitor cognitive function through procedural interventions
● Assess the impact of subsequent interventions on cognitive function
● Relate clinical cardiac risk factors to cognitive impairment and cognitive change
● Identify if the time-course of cognitive impairmet or change varies in these patients compared to patients with stable baseline cognition
● Identify the rate of conversion to dementia in these patients, and determine if this differs from patients presenting for surgery or procedural intervention with stable cognition at baseline
Participants will include people who are:
● 50 years of age or more
● Scheduled for coronary angiography (angiogram) procedure
An assessment of memory and thinking will take place before the intervention, and then at discharge from hospital, one week, three months, 12 months and 24 months post procedure.
