Our group was recently awarded a NHMRC grant to complete the AHEAD study – Are Healthcare interventions Exacerbating Alzheimer’s Disease?
This study will investigate the effects of surgery and anaesthesia on those with existing memory decline prior to surgery. It will include two groups of participants; those having surgery and a control group of participants not having surgery at this time. Memory puzzles will be completed for up to two years following surgery.
Time points include:
prior to surgery
1 week after your surgery
3 months after your surgery
1 year after your surgery
2 years after your surgery
The memory tests will take between an hour and an hour and a half. They involve completing puzzles and questionnaires. At each time point we are happy to come to the participant’s home or convenient location.
WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR THE AHEAD STUDY.
